Breastfeeding Essentials

I'm still in awe of how a women's body is capable of not only carrying a baby for 9 months but also being able to provide ALL nutrients it needs for life before and after birth!

We've been exclusively breastfeeding (EBF) for a little over 7 months and we're pushing to continue until Jennevieve turns at least 1. These are breastfeeding essentials according to me! Everyone is different and everyone must do what's best for them but this is how I arrived at 7+ months of EBF. I know I've talked on a previous post (Mom's Favorites) about things that I loved - it included a few things that helped with breastfeeding, such as; Mother's Milk Tea, Boppy Pillow, etc. However, these are things I use daily.

1) Avent Breastpads: LOVE LOVE THESE. Disposable pads were beginning to get expensive. So, I decided to go with the safer, more environmentally friendly option, reusable pads. One box includes six pads so that's enough for 3 days. I purchased two boxes from Amazon for about $6/each and it worked out great for me. They are soft and safe. They come with a mesh bag so they don't go missing - I just throw them in with the baby's laundry and voila!

2. Nursing Bras: I definitely recommend getting a nursing bra if you plan to breastfeed or even pump. It helps make everything go more smoothly and is super convenient! I actually have the one that is pictured above - you can purchase it here! It is one of my favorites. It's comfortable to sleep in and provides great support. You can find another one of my favorites here. Trust me, you'll be thanking me later 😉

3. Steel Cut Oats: Seriously, it is the key to the liquid gold 🔑. Have it for breakfast...everyday! You can mix it with some of your favorite fruits, add honey and bon appetit! 😋

4. Tank Tops: Do not waste money on nursing tanks! Regular tanks work just as well and are cheaper! I love to get mine from Forever21 - they come in different colors, different styles, stretch easy and only cost about $2. Yes, $2 - so go stack up because you will need them. I wear them under everything, I sleep in them, I clean in them...basically I'm in one 24/7. When I have to feed in public I just pull my top shirt up and my tank top down - that way my stomach isn't exposed to the world.

5. Lansinoh HPA Lanolin: The soreness after the first few feeds is enough to make you give up! My nurses were awesome and helped me get a prescription to this cream during my hospital stay. Boy, was I grateful. I was in Target the other day and noticed it was on sale. So hurry and get it here. Also, new moms when you first start breastfeeding you'll want to apply this cream heavily before getting in the shower...Again, thank me later 😉
