Let's Talk...Weight

Here's a taboo topic (especially after birth of a child) - weight. Everyone makes comments about my size asking what I did to lose my baby weight so quickly so I want to take you through my weightloss.

When I found out I was pregnant I was weighing in at about 144. It was the heaviest I had ever been and my doctor was really adamant about keeping the weight down during pregnancy. For my size and build she only wanted me to gain 30 pounds the entire pregnancy --- 30 POUNDS.

At about 5-6 months I had gained approx. 20 pounds and I knew for sure I would easily surpass my 30 pound limit. However, I was not eating right or living a super healthy lifestyle. I worked late and long hours, therefore, I was not able to eat like I should and I would binge on unhealthy foods. After discussing my diet and determining the foods I could do without (see my previous post about pregnancy cravings) I was able to gain control of my situation.

Right before delivery I was making plans on purchasing an expensive waist trainer for my postpartum journey. I spoke to a salesperson at Motherhood Maternity and found out the hospital actually provides a waist trainer if you ask for one - she advised it was not top of the line but it was a money saver.

When I delivered I weighed 173. I was super swollen all over and worried about losing weight after c-section. To be honest, asking for a waist trainer was the last thing on my mind and I had not realized that immediately after delivery the doctor placed one on me. I kept that thing on almost 24/7 for about a month because it helped keep a lot of pressure off of my incision.

After the first month I would only sleep with ithe waist trainer on and during the day I would wear exercise stretchy (yoga) pants that I could pull over my stomach. Now, I must give props where props are due - GENES and BREASTFEEDING played a major part in my postpartum loss. Your body build is inherited so you should have an idea of your body type and what it takes for you to maintain a healthy weight as everyone is different.

Two months postpartum I am back down to my prepregnancy weight of 144 but I would love to go down to 135 I'm just in no rush. I feel healthy, I eat healthy, I am learning to manage my stress and that's all that matters.
